Housewives Pledge Good Iowa Turkeys For Holidays
Des Moines AP Iowa housewives can expect top quality turkeys at near last year’s prices for holiday dinners. Earl Mason secretary of the Iowa Turkey Federation says Iowa-grown birds are extra high in quality and supply will be ample with dressed hens about a cent a pound higher and dressed toms slightly higher. He predicts prices hold steady through Thanksgiving and Christmas and notes 80 percent of hens and 40 percent of toms are ready for sale. Iowa produced about 3.5 million turkeys this year, up about one percent, ranking Iowa third in production after previously fifth.

Monona Drama Club Stages Lost Horizon in High School
Monona Garden City Players present Lost Horizon this Friday and Saturday at the high school. Jackson Turner directs with G. J. Carroll and R Mueller as artists, Rose Turner costuming, Marilyn Hinds makeup, featuring oriental scenery of a Tibetan lamasery and partly oriental costumes. Richard K. Pfaff 28 youngest son of George Pfaff of Sigourney died at Milan Illinois from injuries after his car missed a curve and struck a service pole. He was a carpenter employed by a local firm and unmarried. Funeral arrangements were pending with the Reed funeral home.

E R Ristine Celebrated For Century Of Life At Mt Vernon
Edward Ransom Ristine, born October 31 1853 near Olin Iowa, is honored at Mt. Vernon Methodist church for his 100th birthday. The celebration includes a cake with 100 candles, a congregational dinner, and a gift from the church Men’s club. Ristine attributes longevity to healthy habits and family history, and his life spans eras from George Washington to modern times. He moved to Mt Vernon in 1891 and built Cornell College’s commercial school, later teaching and serving as principal and administrator before retirement. He has traveled extensively in North America and Mexico since leaving his motorist career in 1951.

Solon Sets $285,000 School Bond Election
Solon voters will ballot on December 7 for a $285,000 bond issue to finance school additions and wings. The district plans gym and vocal units and new classrooms. The original school was built in 1917 with an addition added in 1936.
