Questions rise on public notification for sex offender registry

Deputy AG Doug Marek notes focus has been on registering offenders rather than public notification. Federal and state laws shape the registry begun July 1995 and Megan's Law governs public release. Debates focus on due process and where to notify, with differing methods and lack of clear guidelines. The registry aids hiring of babysitters and volunteers and helps readers check if a neighbor is listed, though it is not perfect.
