We can handle Syrians says Israeli official

Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Arens told Radio Jerusalem that Israel is strong enough to resist and dictate terms in any war with Syria. He warned Syria not to count on a quick victory while acknowledging the risk of a prolonged conflict. NAACP board asks chairwoman to resign after hooks suspension

The NAACP board voted to urge chair Margaret Bush Wilson to resign for suspending executive director Benjamin Hooks and limited her powers. Forty eight of sixty four members approved a telegram at an emergency Brooklyn meeting. Hooks was reinstated. Wilson had said she ended the suspension earlier.
