Sea Scouts Patrol On Cedar River Beneath Kiwanis Sponsorship
Sea Scouts sponsored by the Kiwanis club of Cedar Rapids operate a weekend river service patrol on the Cedar River from the Sheftie dock to Conrad's beach. The 12 1/2 foot patrol boat, built by Ed Sheftie, runs two two hour shifts each weekend with two Scouts per shift. The program, begun two weeks ago, aims to aid river users by hauling logs towing stalled craft righting overturned boats and rescuing occupants if needed. The patrol runs Saturdays 1 to 5 pm and Sundays 9 am to 7 pm with holiday adjustments, and plans to continue through mid September with trained Scouts ready for emergencies.
