The Surgeon General announced a new report expanding smoking linked diseases by nine. Added are acute myeloid leukemia cervical kidney pancreas abdominal aortic aneurysms cataracts periodontitis and pneumonia.
The White House warned agencies that a re elected Bush may trim virtually all domestic programs including education and homeland security in the 2006 budget. A May 19 memo directs agencies to assume 2006 funding levels in the 2005 data base and offset increases by reductions elsewhere. J T Young calls it routine guidance, not final policy.
