Floods force relocation questions in Elkport area

Former Alabama Governor Indicted in Bid Rigging Scheme

Former Gov Don Siegelman and aide Paul Hamrick face federal indictment over a maternity care program bid rigging. They allegedly moved 550000 from the state education budget to the State Fire College in Tuscaloosa to influence a state contract, with physician Phillip Bobo involved. Siegelman’s lawyer declined further comment.

Lyme disease spread tied to tick bites in Iowa and beyond

The Iowa health department notes possible Lyme disease transmission from ticks across the eastern two thirds of Iowa with cases rising countywide. Cuddeback, president of the Iowa Lyme Disease Association, recalls severe illness from a bulls eye rash in 1977 and now educates on diagnosis and misdiagnosis. In 2002 the CDC logged 23,763 U S cases, a 40 percent rise from 2001, while Iowa reported 72 cases last year, up from 42 in 2002. Symptoms include fatigue joint pain and fever.
