Six End Hunger Strike in Jail in Montgomery

Six Negro integrationists ended a brief hunger strike in Montgomery Alabama after skipping two meals in jail cells. The group, arrested Thursday for attempting to eat at a white lunch counter at a bus station, began the fast Friday night and refused two meals. A military spokesman said the protest targeted authorities' refusal to allow one member to telephone his wife as martial law covered the city.

Liscombe Man Dies In Three Car Collision

Webster City Iowa AP Leroy Altemeier 54 of Liscombe died in a three car crash eight miles east on Highway 20. Bonnie Koontz 31 Blairsburg waiting to pass Merrill Frontress 19 Marion clashed with Altemeier who swerved into Frontress. Grace Altemeier 54 and Richard Alatalo 20 Cedar Rapids were hospitalized with shock lacerations and bruises.
