Washington County barn quilt project links communities
Julie Mangold led a Wash ington County barn quilt effort inspired by Grundy County. The program, a joint venture with Iowa State University Extension and the Washington Chamber of Commerce, built wooden quilt blocks at no cost to barn owners, forming four loops with distinct themes. Volunteers painted and hung blocks, some later repainted, while owners sometimes replaced structures.
