McLoud Run fish kills prompt Cedar Rapids protection push
Cedar Rapids Iowa relies on its urban trout stream McLoud Run east of I 380 to supply water quality. Since 1997 the stream has suffered 13 fish kills due to chemicals from termite poison floor-stripping agents ammonia and chlorine from water main breaks. Heat shock from warm urban runoff adds risk to fish life. Local groups push for better protections and watershed safeguards.
