Democrats allege that Frank Severino Sr. hosted a Sukup fundraiser within 30 days after the legislative session. Education chief says tax cuts delivered little stimulus to Iowa

Iowa education director Ted Stilwill told Iowa Public Television that 800 million in tax cuts offered limited economic stimulus and left state agencies struggling to maintain services after the surplus ended. He notes the 2002 budget kept general fund spending while education gained 19 million, and says surplus was redirected from education funding. Stilwill doubts sales tax increases will gain support for school infrastructure. He also mentions a proposed alternative licensing plan for teachers and administrators next year after a veto.
