Memorial services were conducted for Wagner LeRoy Beatty Bearle at Turner chapel west at 1 30 p m with Rev Cedric J Lofdahl of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial followed at Linwood Bettle Bonita May Turner chapel west at 1 30 p m with Rev A Washington. The casket will not be opened after the service. Also services for Josephine Atkins Turner chapel west at 10 30 a m with Rev Paul J Maguire. Burial at Cedar Memorial Cemetery.
Dr. J B Hef ferlin of the Ellis L Phillips Foundation in Berkeley told about 150 educators at Coe College Review week that higher education is in a watershed period. He forecast longer aged student bodies, off campus study options, and diverse programs as colleges adjust to new alternatives and competency based credentials. He urged colleges to emphasize humane growth and broad learning over mere technical instruction.
Four additional building trades contracts have been signed in Cedar Rapids leaving six settlements to reach from 16 craft agreements that expired May 1. North Vietnamese forces launched a tank assault on Kontum as U S helicopters and Jeeps aided defense from Fort Bragg personnel. U S B 52s dropped 600 tons of bombs around the city while intense artillery tore into enemy positions. Two helicopters were shot down with one crewman killed and two missing.

It was Brezhnev’s first absence from a summit session and talks extended about seventeen hours through Thursday at Brezhnev’s country home. U S sources expect some Vietnam mention in the final communique but no details.
