Medal of Honor to Doughboy Who Held Back Enemy Platoon
Pfc. Alton W. Knappenberger of Springmount Pennsylvania, 20, earned the Medal of Honor for two hours of holding a German platoon at Anzio. Despite all officers and NCOs of his unit being casualties near Cisterna di Littoria on February 1, he kept firing until ammunition ran out, crawled under fire to grab more ammo, and returned to the front before rejoining his company.

Old Type Gasoline Coupons Void After June 1
The Office of Price Administration says old type B-2 and C-2 gasoline ration coupons without serial numbers will be unusable on and after June 1. Serially numbered B-3 and C-3 coupons have replaced them. Unused B-2 and C-2 can be exchanged after June 1 at local ration boards, and stations have until June 10 to turn in B-2 and C-2 presented before June 1.
