Lee W. Reid aged 66 of 527 Sixteenth Street NE died in a local hospital at 10:40 p.m. Thursday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Tuesday. James J. Quirk aged 70 died at his home on Midway Drive NW at 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

At St Luke's hospital a daughter to L R Wilson 309 Twenty second Street NE May 25 a son to M A Winders 641 Twenty first Avenue SW May 25 a daughter to Leonard Vick 3020 C avenue NE May 26.
Helen Higley of 860 Seventeenth street SE found not guilty on reckless driving after trial. Forrest Mollenhauer and Bob Simson of 435 Forest drive SE paid costs and surrendered licenses. James W. Eyre of Mount Vernon paid costs with a $25 fine suspended. George Tepley of 816 Third avenue SE paid $10 plus costs. Carl Turner and Alberta Anderson, both 21 and listed as Negro, of 1006 and 1012 Sixth street SE respectively, fined $10 plus costs for disorderly conduct.
Victor Kenkade of Chicago fails to yield right of way with a $10 fine plus costs. LeRoy Hill of Sioux City fined $25 and costs for overloading a truck, joined by Jack Long of Arcadia $25 and costs, Jess Wymore of Cedar Rapids $25 and costs for overloading.
A spontaneous combustion incident occurred at F Rooak home 1139 Eighth Street NW at 11 45 am Friday in a closet with no damage reported.
Gwendolyn Willman aged 25 from John G Willman appears before Judge H C Ring on cruel and inhuman treatment. Custody of two children and property rights settled under stipulation. Married at Morrison NL July 26 1934. Myrtle Troup aged 55 from James Troup granted on cross petition on cruel and inhuman grounds. Married June 15 1908.
Stanley DeWitt and Flora C Baker from Clinton. Louis P Mann and Blanche Baker from Cedar Rapids. George B Struck and Margaret Ann Zak from Marion. Harry F Sullivan and Patricia B Halton from Cedar Rapids are listed as paired individuals in a local notice.
The Farley and Loetscher plant ended a seven week walkout as 901 employees returned to work. Workers won a small raise but did not secure a closed shop or bonus elimination. Injunctions tied to picketing will be dismissed by May 27, and riot charges from May 10 will be dropped. The union and company each pay their own court costs. Extra police protected the site after violent clashes with 342 strikebreakers leaving the plant.
Seventeen survivors left the hospital while Captain Amsden announced strict silence on the drowning incident. The city council is asked to abate a sewer nuisance at Seventeenth Street and Tenth Avenue SW. The petition claims a cellar overdrain flows from the hilltop onto the petitioner’s property, prompting action.

The combination passenger and freight train on the Illinois Central line between Cedar Rapids and Manchester will run from here at 7 15 p.m. daily starting Monday in place of the current freight train. The freight service is to be discontinued indefinitely due to declining business.

Harry F. Sundberg of the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce secured a 67 cent per 100 pounds rail rate for shipments to gulf ports, saving local manufacturers 20 to 45 dollars per carload. The rate shift, aimed at boosting Cedar Rapids competitiveness with Chicago area producers, could spur local employment. Sundberg also opposed a proposed rule requiring hardwood racks for scrap iron gon dola cars, a cost estimate of 25 to 40 dollars per carload, arguing it would be discriminatory against Cedar Rapids shippers.
