Giant change to college athletics model outlined in NCAA settlement
Iowa City report notes a multibillion-dollar settlement ending House v NCAA and related suits. It provides nearly 2.8 billion in backpay for athletes since 2016, removes scholarship caps, adds NIL accountability, and allows schools to pay athletes directly with up to 21 million in revenue shared. Direct compensation expected to begin fall 2025, pending court approval.
