Rural Iowa City school to close next month
The rural Hills Elementary in the Iowa City district will permanently shut its doors next month after a board vote to save about 1.66 million annually. Grace King reports at a farewell event attended by hundreds of teachers staff students and families.

I-380 widening kicks off near North Liberty
Construction started to widen I-380 to six lanes between Penn Street and Swan Lake Road in North Liberty as part of a larger plan to add lanes up to the Wright Brothers Boulevard exit in Cedar Rapids. One new lane per direction will be added, creating three lanes each way where two exist now. The project, expected to run until year end or early next, will largely run at night with occasional lane closures and minor daytime impact, per John Lamping of the Iowa DOT District 6 office.
