Cedar Rapids library pleas city for renewal funds
Cedar Rapids library officials told the city council that without funding for renewal subscriptions some periodicals face cancellation in July. Library Director Tom Carney cited Congress as not acting on revenue sharing, noting renewals total about 23 451 dollars with some already cut to 20 000. The council debated user fees to support library operations, acknowledging education as a key function while considering budget cuts and revenue sharing. Carney warned he must return to the council for help when July renewals are due.

Cedar Rapids Appeals to Exceed Nine Percent Budget Rule
Cedar Rapids officials met with State Auditor Lloyd Smith to seek approval to raise the 1976-77 budget beyond the nine percent growth cap by one tenth of one percent. City leaders cited a 9.1 percent rise to fund municipal transit and civic center funding, while offsetting increases in MTA tax askings with cuts in other services. The hearing, the first of Linn County towns, lasted 30 minutes with a ruling pending. Mayor Donald Canney and council members were absent due to a Tuesday informal meeting.
