The American Dairy Association vetoed proposals to market milk with sinful or glamorous appeals. It argued milk already suits its audience and noted critics of government support programs, declining per capita dairy consumption, and concern over media attacks on milk and motherhood.
Iowa farmers report 85 percent of corn planted and 40 percent of soybeans. Five of seven days were good for field work, two rainy days reduced soil moisture shortages. Corn pace behind last year but above five year average. nearly all spring plowing done. Clover and alfalfa show variable winter-kill effects. topsoil generally adequate, subsoil moisture good except northeast.
An outbreak of swine cholera has appeared in an Iowa county for the first time in about 114 years, per Don ald H Goering the county extension director.

About 560 people attended Linn county 4 H girls Rally Day as Mrs Karl E Hoppe was initiated as an honorary Linn county 4 H member. Chickadees club graduates including Mrs Eldon Wohlleben and Mrs Franklin Hendrickson attended. Folk dances from the U S and other countries highlighted the program. Principal speaker Cynthia Hanken narrated with Ramona Bys leading.
Decorah Iowas Winneshiek County 4-H clubs elected officers at Rally Day in the Community building. Mary Leistikow was named president Irene Huber vice president Beverly Christopherson secretary and Linda Stortz historian. An honorary member was named and 84 dollars donated to support the International Farm Youth Exchange program. The Lamb of the Future carcass show at Hawkeye Downs Cedar Rapids June 16-17 drew 142 entries with 26 progeny pens and about 50 purebred sheep.
Marengo Iowa county annual joint 4-H Rally Night will be held June 1 at 7 30 p m in the Conroy school gym with Lois Ann Ingels noting county officers will be elected and honorary 4-H members initiated.
