Emery J Miller secretary treasurer of the Marion Lions evening club retires after twelve years in that post. He is a charter member of a club formed May 3 1921 and chartered in June. Dinner at 6 15 precedes a program at the Suburban.
Five people died in separate weekend crashes across Iowa. The fatalities include Darcus Moody, James McCurdy, Delmar Trump, Mary Auten, and William Lane, boosting 1965 highway deaths to 236.
A bolt of lightning hit the Frank Pillard farmhouse near Anamosa at 1 15 a m Sunday, starting a roof fire. Anamosa firefighters confined the blaze to the roof and second floor, with smoke and water damage. Mr and Mrs Pillard and their son David escaped unharmed.
Six teens injured in a four car chain collision on Lake Macbride road four miles west of Solon Sunday afternoon. Sharon Kent 16 DeWitt in serious condition with head injuries. Claudia Jensen 15 DeWitt in good condition. Dennis Hall 18 Low Moor in fair condition with facial injuries. Other patients released include Claudia Shaver 15 Cedar Rapids Debra Maher 16 Cedar Rapids and Richard Kelly 19 Grand Mound. The Iowa City highway patrol described the crash when Sally Helm of Iowa City missed a turn into an intersection.
