The Eastern Iowa Airport reported 90,728 travelers in April, beating the 2013 April high of 85,676 and marking a 5.9 percent rise from March. Airport Director Tim Bradshaw cites lower fares and a strong local economy, with plans for a B gates boarding bridge, a 2016 second concourse, and expanded hold rooms and security.
DuPont Industrial Biosciences started a $20 million expansion at 1000 41st Avenue Dr. SW Cedar Rapids to add granulation capacity for enzyme production. The project includes a new building warehouse and storage tanks funded by a $55,000 forgivable loan and about $900,500 in tax credits approved in 2013 plus a 10 year property tax exemption.
USDA figures show Iowa and Missouri farm operators paid workers about 18.75 percent above the national average during the April 6 to 12 reference week. 21,000 workers were hired, with field and livestock earners averaging 13.30 and 13.41 dollars per hour, while Iowa field workers averaged 13.22 dollars.
