Outboard Regatta draws crowds on Cedar River course
The ninth annual Hawkeye Stock Outboard Association Regatta on the Cedar River drew hundreds to Ellis Park. Fifty-plus drivers from seven states competed in races on the three quarter mile watercourse with top prize only $16. Winners included Kathy Graveson and Sharon Guilliams in class A Stock Runabout with Mike Crawford in the mix. Homer Schultz and Joe Schultz led multiple classes as organizers noted the non profit nature of the event. The Cedar Rapids Water Ski Club debuted with kite skiing and a six hour show as spectators watched the low flying boats, family members, and local officials involved in a lively, community boating day.
