San Antonio borrows oil to fire electric plant
San Antonio's Public Service Board accepts a loan offer of 200000 barrels of oil from Coastal States Gas Producing Co to fuel generators that normally run on natural gas. The move comes amid a two thirds cut in gas supply, with Coastal States and Tesoro Petroleum supplying additional oil. The board seeks solutions within three weeks while urging voluntary electricity rationing as a possible step toward avoiding mandatory curtailment in summer.
