Tama county faced heavy rains that washed out conventional cultivated corn while contour planted fields largely held. Tama soil district conservationist Bryan Boatman said about 40 percent of corn was planted before the wet spell and contour strip planting slowed water and reduced erosion. Approximately 200 farmers use contour practices, with more requests rolling in daily.
