Marion High School Commencement Slated at Methodist Church

The sixty third annual Marion high school commencement will be held Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Methodist church with 76 seniors receiving diplomas. The program features the band under G L Lyman, choral groups, and remarks by C B Vernon and Delbert J Pugh. The class includes 76 members and the color green and silver. A baccalaureate is set for tonight at 8 with Rev Herbert O Allen as speaker. Class day exercises are planned for Tuesday at 8 in Lincoln school auditorium followed by an alumni banquet Friday evening.

Memorial Day Talk and Services in Marion

Memorial day programs will be held in Marion with Harold E. Davidson of Clarinda as speaker. A morning procession forms at Memorial hall, led by W. H. Balster, followed by a march to the city park with flags, veterans groups, and local officials. The program includes speeches, a Gettysburg address, music, a poem, and taps, with a rain contingency for church venues.

Circle holds picnic and plans June guest day

The U. S. Circle enjoyed a picnic luncheon Thursday at Mrs. Dennis Taylor's home near Springville with fifteen members and guests. They attended the Springville commencement exercises. Plans were made for a guest day party on June 10 at Mrs. Irving Drake's home.

Marion High Students Set for State Academic Tests

Nineteen Marion High students will travel to Iowa City June 1 and 2 to take the state academic tests under University of Iowa sponsorship. The school ranks eighth among 227 qualified schools and fourth among 66 Class B entrants. Township High School Built And Maintained Without Tax Levy

Sharon township high school in John son county operates without taxes for six years. Tuition is 12 dollars monthly or 108 annually with 36 pupils enrolled. Superintendent G. W. Schantz and two instructors run the school, funded by 4300 subscriptions and 1000 from community events. The 90 by 45 foot three story building cost 14000, debt 5200 being paid down. a gym kitchen and community space exist in the basement. Board members are J. Kay, Oren Alt, Earl E. Miller, Omar R. Iowa colleges rated in journalism course study
