Marion City Council OKs purchase of Marion Airport

The Marion City Council voted 5-0 to direct City Manager Lon Pluckhahn to close on buying the privately owned Marion Airport for 1.67 million dollars. The city aims to access state grants and plans runway upgrades while LuxAir Aviation will manage the facilities for 10 years at no city cost.

Driver gets 17 years for passenger's death

Cedar Rapids man Jeremy Rud, 33, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide as a habitual felon and leaving the scene. He was sentenced to up to 17 years with three years before parole, for the 2012 death of Jenniffer Hopkins, 30, who was his passenger after reckless driving and running stop signs.
