Hay prices fall from late peak on lighter cattle demand

Washington AP reports the Agriculture Department says hay prices have declined from recent highs as fewer cattle reduce demand. The 1978 hay crop averaged 49 dollars per ton, down from 54 in 1977 and well below the 60.30 dollar peak set in 1976.
