Duke Surgeon Performs First Parathyroid Transplant
Duke University surgeon Dr Samuel Wells reports what he calls the first successful parathyroid transplant. He moved two glands from John McKnight to his son Donald in 1971, and a 1973 graft in the other son resumed normal calcium control, offering an option when autotransplants or oral treatment fail.
