Law Could Be Expensive For Young Women In Mass
Boston AP report notes ratification of the equal rights amendment in Massachusetts could raise auto insurance premiums for young women by more than 30 million dollars annually. Insurance officials study whether rates may no longer be based on sex if the amendment is legal. Commissioner James B. Stone, age 27, questions the potential impact and notes discrimination by sex may be treated differently than age or race. If sex-based rate discrimination becomes illegal, effects might not begin before 1977.
