Jury convicts Bevans of first degree murder in Iowa case

A Benton County jury found Samantha Bevans, 35, guilty of first degree murder for suffocating her stepmother Jodie Bevans on July 14, 2022. Sentencing is set for June 14. Eldora teen dies in unintentional shooting dubbed gun play

Hardin County Attorney Darrell Meyer identified Keeley Baer of Eldora as the 13-year-old victim. A 12-year-old friend remained in custody. Police responded to the 800 block of 12th Street on April 14 after a shooting. investigators ruled the death unintentional and linked to a pistol found at the home. Keeley, a South Hardin Middle School student, was described in her obituary as caring and sociable with dreams of becoming a doctor. A GoFundMe has been started for funeral expenses and meals for the family.
