Iowa schools seek summer meal expansion grants
Forty Iowa school districts and three non school groups seek Summer Meal Program Expansion Grants totaling more than 26 million dollars. Applications were due May 7 and come after Gov. Reynolds rejected 29 million in federal summer food aid. Groups include Northeast Iowa Food Bank, YMCA of Greater Des Moines, and Story Medical Center.

Meta Plans Davenport Data Center In Iowa With Incentives
Meta Platforms plans an $800 million data center in Davenport on a 328 acre site at Hillandale Road and Enterprise Way. The project could create about 35 high wage jobs, with city and state incentives totaling roughly $161 million over 20 years and a Davenport tax exemption worth 50 percent for 20 years. Groundbreaking could occur in Q4 2025 and completion by end of 2027, depending on formal approvals.

Kirkwood mother daughter duo graduates together
Lacey Kruse and her mother Rachel Graber, both Cedar Rapids residents, completed Kirkwood Community College programs together and earned pins as registered nurses. Kruse, 19, began nursing work at 16 during COVID-19, studying via dual enrollment, while Graber, 46, reentered higher education in 2019 to become a licensed practical nurse. They later graduated and posed for a Mercy Hospital portrait on May 13.
