Oak wilt test kits speed diagnosis for oaks
A pilot using new rapid oak wilt tests from PureBioX and collaborators aims to cut diagnosis time from weeks to about one hour and reduce cost. Researchers collect leaves and cores from white oaks, extract DNA, and use a portable DNA amplification process. color change signals presence or absence of Bretiella fagacearum. If effective, tests could curb spread by targeting infected trees with herbicide and mapping transmission patterns across Iowa sites.
