May Testifies on Note for $5,000 in War Fraud Trial
Former Representative Andrew J. May testified that he signed a $5,000 note in 1941 as an accommodation for Murray Garsson and does not know if it was ever paid. He linked the note to Garsson's bid to take over a 7,500 acre West Virginia manganese lease, operated under Greenbriar Company, after incurring losses. May noted letters showing the note renewal at Garsson's request and said Walker, who financed the loan, was uninvolved in the WV deal. The witness stated he did not know if the $5,000 funds were ever paid.
