IRS questions 1.3 million in PTL expenditures
The IRS questions luxury PTL charges by Jim and Tammy Bakker to the 129 million Christian ministry they founded from 1981 to 1983. Items include a 592000 oceanfront condo, 67000 in clothing, and an $800 Gucci briefcase paid with church donations, part of broader audit into PTL finances. Justice and internal probes loom as Falwell-led board seeks to account for 92 million in contributions and possible diversions.

French Soviet talks end with no arms deal
In Moscow three days of sharp talks between French Premier Jacques Chirac and Soviet leaders failed to narrow the arms control gap. Gennady Gerasimov said hopes for nuclear disarmament contribution did not materialize. Chirac said misunderstandings were erased but views remain far apart. He met with Mikhail Gorbachev Nikolai Ryzhkov and discussed human rights trade and bilateral questions. European missile elimination proposals were also on the agenda.
