Clarence man joins volunteer militia in Cedar County

Reighard Fields, a 38 year old Vietnam veteran from Clarence, Iowa, heads a four man USSF strike team. He says the United States Special Field Forces is a nationwide volunteer corps to back National Guard in a worst case communist threat on American soil. The group is reportedly monitoring a suspected foreign nationals group in Iowa City tied to drugs for money for weapons.

Two Californians arrested over man caged with wolf incident

Bruce Hutchison 37 of Newport Beach and John Sparkman 39 of Costa Mesa were jailed on suspicion of kidnapping after allegedly beating Anthony Scimore 35 and placing him in a cage with a black wolf at Hutchison's ranch. Scimore escaped. Wolf conduct may violate wildlife rules. Additional arrests were made for kidnapping in Twentynine Palms.

Cedar Rapids to Get $14 Million Nine-Story Hotel

Springfield developer John Q. Hammons plans a 14 million nine story hotel on 8.5 acres between Collins Road and Park Place NE in northeast Cedar Rapids. The 260 room facility will front Collins Road overlooking Noelridge Park and feature a 1500 seat convention center a bar a coffee shop a dining room and a pool. Ground to be purchased from Terry Bjornsen with construction expected to start soon and completion about 15 months after. Hammons specializes in building and operating his own hotels across 28 states and has not yet named the eventual operator.
