Gardner Testimony Opens in Cedar Rapids Felon with Gun Charges
Testimony began in Cedar Rapids federal court Monday afternoon in the case of Craig Gardner charged with three counts of possessing a firearm as a felon. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Kirshen said Gardner bought a .22 handgun last June while denying a felony record, though he had a 1975 larceny conviction. Gardner's attorney argued the charges rest on a technicality and that the form question about felonies was unclear, claiming no intent to falsify. The attorney noted Gardner served one year for the larceny conviction. The note ends with a description of Ulysses S. Grant on a U.S. $50 bill and the Capitol image on the reverse.
