DHS program oversees high risk sexual offenders at Cherokee facility
The Iowa DHS runs a nearly 70 member staff program with a 7 million dollar yearly budget that places 80 inmates in a CCUSO unit at Cherokee MHI. Offenders face a five phase treatment with annual reviews and possible indefinite civil commitment if released only by court. Some detainees oppose release while others seek it to pursue work or family needs.

Iowa court orders exhumation for cryogenic head freezing
Iowa appeals court ruled siblings must exhume Orville Richardson’s body so Alcor can cryogenically freeze his head. Richardson, who signed a 2004 contract with Alcor paying 53500, died in 2009 and was buried by relatives who opposed his plan. The decision overturns a lower court ruling and cites the 2006 Uniform Anatomical Gift Act revision limiting donor revocation.
