ISEA sanctions two Iowa districts over working conditions
In the first such move in seven years the Iowa State Education Assn sanctions the English Valleys Community district at North English and Ida Grove Community district. ISEA President Ray Satory cited unsatisfactory working conditions and warned educators against taking positions in either district. The sanctions were approved by the ISEA executive board on Saturday and direct staff to notify Midwest education officials.

Forest Fire Out of Control Near Boundary Waters
A vast forest fire raged over 17 square miles in Superior National Forest near Ely Minnesota. About 450 firefighters worked with 17 bulldozers and water-dumping aircraft to create firebreaks as the blaze burned lakeshore, with no immediate danger to most cabins and resorts south of the fire. The northern edge lay about 9 miles from the Canadian border and officials labeled the fire man caused, hoping for weather changes to aid containment.
