New Rural America group names ex ASC officials
The National Committee for the Improvement of Rural America announces its first leaders, all former Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service officials. Chairman James W. White says the group will remain nonpartisan but actively advocate rural interests and monitor government activity. The slate includes Fred McLain and Freeman Hackensmith as top officers, with three directors having ASC ties and more directors planned for the southwest and northwest regions. The organization aims for elite community leaders and annual dues of 100 dollars with sustaining memberships from agribusinesses and rural-focused groups. A Washington HQ will house an executive secretary to watch Congress and federal agencies, keeping members informed on rural issues.
