Elms Damaged In Parts Of State By Cankerworms
In Poweshiek and Jasper counties and Des Moines cankerworms defoliate elm trees. Expert Harold Gunderson recommends spraying with 11 1/2 pounds of lead arsenate per 50 gallons of water and a sticker to increase adherence. Severely defoliated trees may die, and dry weather worsens damage as weakened elms become vulnerable to borers and diseases.
