Reports of funnel clouds near Ryan and Manchester in Delaware County and around Cedar Rapids emerged at 1:30 p.m. A Cedar Rapids officer observed a funnel near Westdale Mall. Firefighter Svatosch saw a funnel on the Mount Vernon edge at 2:05 p.m. Civil defense sirens were activated about 10 minutes after confirmation as heavy rain led to a flash flood watch for southern Iowa. Abbe Creek swelled near Mount Vernon by 6 p.m.
Urban Institute researchers used matched white and black male applicants to 476 private sector job ads in Chicago and DC. Whites advanced further 20 percent of cases, blacks 7 percent, with the rest equal, indicating widespread discrimination against black men and limited reverse bias.
