Michael Leonard Finchem 32 pleaded guilty to two counts of bank robbery for stealing 3000 from Hills Bank and Trust on April 18 and 2038 from Hawkeye State Bank on April 26 in Iowa City. Each count carries up to 20 years and a 250000 fine. sentencing set for July 22.

Douglass Miller of the U S Agriculture Department entomology lab in Beltsville Maryland finds 17 year cicadas tasty. The insects emerge in parts of West Virginia Kentucky and Ohio and he uses them in omelets tacos salads stir fry hors doeuvres and as sugar coated ice cream toppings.

David Gott, 36, a stockbroker from Homestead, embraces the attention as Phyllis pursues a simple poster before publication in Grinnell Magazine.
Square D will join Schneider Electric after accepting an 88 a share bid worth 2.23 billion dollars. Cedar Rapids plant human resources manager Glen Holiga says operations remain normal despite employee questions about the merger. The deal makes Schneider the world’s largest electrical control devices maker with 80,000 employees and about 9.8 billion in sales last year.
Robert J. Koch, 51, arrested for bilking a Kenosha woman of 10,200 during a 10 day romance, and suspected of a nationwide scam charging up to 200 women. Investigators say he used 100 aliases and may have fraud links in 28 states including Iowa. Koch pleaded innocent to theft and forgery in Kenosha County Circuit Court.
A United Nations report says the world population will reach 10.2 billion by 2050, with 95 percent of growth in poorer nations. North America and Europe rise little, while immigration and environmental pressures may strain industrial nations.
