Des Moines Considered for CCC Soil Erosion Headquarters
Expansion of the Civilian Conservation Corps soil erosion program may move administrative offices from Bethany Missouri to Des Moines Iowa. R E Uhland recommended shifting staff in charge of camp activities to Des Moines due to crowded facilities at Bethany. Demonstration project headquarters would stay at Bethany with camp administration in Des Moines, possibly about fifteen staffers. The move awaits approval by Secretary Wallace as plans for regional setups and new relief funding are developed. Des Moines could host a regional setup covering multiple states. Details on state groupings and headquarters selection are under study in the Soil Erosion Service offices.
