Appeals denied in Iowa school sharing plans crisis
Des Moines AP reports the State Board of Education refused to hear appeals from dozens of parents seeking to opt their children out of new class sharing agreements between neighboring districts. The parents argued lack of educational or geographical hardship to justify waiving attendance in nearby districts.

Campaign financing deadline nears for state and county races
DES MOINES As the primary election nears, county auditors offices and the Iowa Campaign Finance Disclosure Commission see increased activity. All candidates for county office and for the Iowa Legislature with campaign activity over 250 dollars must register committees and file disclosure reports. County reports go to the local auditor, legislative reports to the Disclosure Commission in Des Moines. The 250 dollar threshold covers contributions, expenditures and debts, including personal candidate debt. Committees must register within 10 days of crossing the threshold. Next report due May 20 covering activity through this Friday, with other dates July 20 Oct 20 1988 and Jan 20 1989 for both county and legislative candidates. A potential June 3 report may be due for legislative candidates who have received 1000 dollars or more in cash or in kind contributions since May.
