Historic 1876 Blue Bridge joins Indian Creek trail system
The Linn County Blue Bridge, built in 1876 and once a traffic route on Bertram Road, was officially incorporated into the Indian Creek Nature Center pedestrian trail after a Friday ribbon cutting. Center leader John Myers said the bridge is now a valued link and pledged to preserve it for another 150 years.

Sister testifies as killer given up to 50 years
Kimberly Maldonaldo Vazquez told Linn County District Court that her brother Jorge Maldonaldo Vazquez’s death destroyed her family. Bran non Johnson, 22, of Cedar Rapids, was sentenced to up to 50 years with a 35-year minimum for the February 15, 2023, murder in Cedar Rapids. Johnson apologized to the family, claimed self defense, and planned an appeal while Judge Jason Besler ordered $150,000 in restitution.
