Marion City Council approved selling the Marion Airport runway to 530 Investments LLC for 500000. The buyer will keep the land as a runway for at least 10 years and receive a tax rebate up to 50000. City Manager Ryan Waller said the move saves the runway and the airport.
Iowa Regent David Barker, reconfirmed to the state board overseeing public universities, was nominated to become the U.S. assistant secretary of postsecondary education. Gov. Reynolds praised his experience guiding higher education while the Education Department outlined aims to improve outcomes, accreditation reforms, and federal student aid oversight. Barker is a partner in Barker Companies in Iowa City.
Iowa lawmakers did not take up a debate on eminent domain for a Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline as activists shouted from the gallery. Senate leaders and President Amy Sinclair warned protesters to calm down while addressing property rights and the stalled project in a tense Capitol session.
