White Elephant moved to temporary home near Heart House
The White Elephant storefront and the adjacent Heart House, both in the Bohemian Commercial Historic District, were saved from demolition. The move began at 5 30 a.m. and cost 20 000 dollars for the 60 000 pound building after a token 10 dollar purchase. It will sit on wheels 60 to 90 days before placement on land the DeBo ons are buying from the city. Beth DeBoom of Save CR Heritage says the project is satisfying and aims to restore the building to its pre flood condition with a thrift shop on the first floor and a living area above.
