Buckingham Palace announced Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon have agreed to end their marriage after two years apart and will begin legal proceedings. Margaret, 47, and Snowdon, 48, have two children and plans for remarriage are denied. she is hospitalized with gastroenteritis awaiting test results.
Police in Wayland Michigan cannot question the six year old suspect in a year long Allegan County burglary spree. The girl, in parental custody, is alleged to have begun stealing at age five, entering homes through unlocked windows and taking small items like pliers and even a cake.
Gov. Robert Ray acknowledged being in a political hot spot as the Legislature sent a bill to raise the minimum drinking age from 18 to 19. The House passed it after Senate changes, but a veto override would require votes not yet available. Ray favors 18 but hinted he may sign or veto, citing two principles and public opinion as factors.
Linn County Sheriff Orlie Workman questioned advance public announcements for a nuclear disaster exercise. Des Moines official Hinman said a true-to-life drill will occur next week near the Duane Arnold Energy Center at Palo with agencies determining timing and notifying participants only at the last moment.
