Marion's park board at a Thursday meeting authorized Herman Thompson to arrange acceptance of the Bowman Woods border area into the city park system. The board also approved installing swings at Hanna park and hiring a weekend attendant for Thomas and American Legion parks.
The Sounds of Joy singing group will perform Sunday at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 2895 Fourteenth Avenue. The group has toured Nebraska to Oregon. Open to the public.
Rabbi Baruch Korff told UPI that former President Nixon has invitations from several countries and may travel again this year if his health improves. Korff noted the South Vietnam takeover saddened Nixon and that the Nixon Justice Fund has paid $165,000 in legal fees with $161,804 more owed toward a $400,000 total obligation. He declined to name inviting governments but said many invited him and that health improvement could lead to travel.
ST. LOUIS AP Semi nex, the seminary in exile formed after a doctrinal dispute at Concordia seminary in Clayton, will relocate from its quarters at Saint Louis University this summer due to space needs. Some classroom space and library access will remain for Lutheran seminarians, while Seminex seeks new space within a few blocks of the campus.

Consumer advocate Ralph Nader and Mark Green for Corporate Accountability Research Group urged broad changes to anti trust law citing $30 billion yearly consumer harm from monopolistic practices. The U S Chamber of Commerce opposed most proposals warning of government licensing power and no current problems.
Otterville sees a Friday morning blaze that destroyed the Ray Larsen family mobile home on Goose Lake road. Mrs. Larsen alerted neighbors and firefighters. Fire Chief Paul Spener cites a likely short circuit in a heat bulb as the cause. loss totals undetermined. An additional Friday night fire near Jefferson High School athletic field is suspected arson and under investigation.
In Belfast AP, the IRA warns it will resume its violent campaign to end British rule if Protestant hardliners attempt to restore a six-county state. They threaten retaliation as Protestants at a constitutional convention refuse power sharing with Catholics. The convention, dominated by hardliners, backs restoring the old Protestant parliament. direct rule from London remains in place.
The U S Consumer Product Safety Commission reports about 125 Americans die annually from aerosol abuse. Most victims are youths who inhale spray paints deodorants and other aerosols to get high. The finding is based on 77 deaths across 40 states in 18 months ending December 1974.
About 25 of 40 Mesquakie Indians at South Tama walked out Thursday protesting discriminatory actions by students and teachers. A Friday session with ~50 Indian students and parents, teachers, and two board members urged Native American history courses, a grievance committee, and a Native American club. administrators planned to report Monday on actions.
About 530 Cambodian and South Vietnamese military personnel continue training at U S bases and service schools though their armies are no longer active. Officials say the arrangement is temporary and aims to avoid disruption while determining future status. Some officers and enlisted men request return home, but no final decision has been made.
George N Justice of 3430 White Oak road SE was elected president of the Cedar Rapids chapter of the Chartered Life Underwriters. He holds the CLU designation earned four years ago and is a four year member of the Million Dollar Round Table, the Cedar Rapids Estate Planning council, and the Cedar Rapids Life Underwriters chapter. Bert Hoffman was elected vice president and James A Russell secretary treasurer. Frank I Kintzle, Robert Downey, and Larry A Hunter were named to the board.
Manchester Delaware county grand jury Friday returned murder indictments against Myra Miller aged 19 and Dennis Fisher aged 28 in connection with the death of Howard Miller. His body was found April 23 in a shallow grave on the farm he rented with his wife in rural Masonville. Fisher was a hired hand on the farm.
Egyptian President Sadat told a Friday news briefing that a reconvened Arab-Israeli conference in Geneva could be the Middle East’s final hope for peace and that the United States holds all leverage. He urged Western European nations to join talks to prevent polarization between the United States and the Soviet Union from freezing negotiations.
Judge James A. Carter granted a venue change to Linn county for Ronald Brewer a 35 year old escapee from the men's reformatory charged with the January 29 murder of Clarence and Patricia Edwards in their Anamosa home The judge set two trial dates June 2 in Linn county for Clarence Edwards death and June 16 for Patricia Edwards plus August 11 for the escape charge
