Split Iowa caucus delays CO2 pipeline fight and eminent domain
Iowa lawmakers face a split caucus over carbon dioxide pipelines proposed by Carbon Solutions and Wolf Carbon Solutions with Navigator CO2 Ventures cancelling last year. Opposition from landowners and the Sierra Club grows as opponents press to curb or ban pipelines, while supporters cite low carbon fuels demand and tax credits. The House advanced a bill to curb eminent domain but the Senate did not act. Republicans hold majorities and views vary, with a Des Moines Register poll showing 78 percent oppose eminent domain use. The Iowa Utilities Board weighs Summit Carbon Solutions' permit amid ongoing political pressure and potential future action.
