Vigils and Marches Wave Across Iowa Campuses
About 125 Iowa State University students held an all night peace vigil in Ames in response to President Nixon's plan to mine North Vietnamese harbors. The event, peaceful except for a bonfire and a BB incident, drew Ames Emergency Mobilization sponsors and Iowa patrols watched over the campus. In Iowa City, 25 students and faculty denounced Nixon and a small protest lingered into the morning. Grinnell College led a peaceful 700 strong citywide march at 1 a.m. with candles and debates against the policy, a similar protest planned for Tuesday night.
