Heavy fighting seizes Ben Het and An Loc fronts

Combat lasting over a day near Ben Het camp ended just before dawn. The command claimed 100 North Vietnamese killed and 11 tanks destroyed. U S advisers pulled out signaling its fall. Elsewhere An Loc faced 950 rocket and mortar rounds with three South Vietnamese helicopters shot down during a resupply and evacuation attempt.

Laird cites progress and limits in Vietnam war efforts

West Virginia primary shows Humphrey lead over Wallace in nonbinding race

With 78 percent of precincts reporting in West Virginia Humphrey led Wallace 68 percent to 32 percent in the nonbinding preference vote. Rockefeller led Dem gubernatorial contenders in West Virginia with 73 percent. Nixon swept Nebraska with 93 percent. Wallace won North Carolina the previous Saturday.

Armand S Klees Dies. Navy Veteran and Iowa Solider Home Resident

Armand S Klees 53 formerly of 1232 Twentieth Avenue SW and a resident of the Iowa Soldiers Home in Marshalltown died in Iowa City Tuesday. Born September 23 1918 in Rossville he was a World War II Navy veteran and married Marguerite A Deeny November 9 1941 in Kahoka Missouri. He was a member of the Carpenters union and survived by three sons Armand S Dale and Gregg and two daughters Mrs Gary Schuldt and Deborah Klees all of Cedar Rapids seven grandchildren and a sister Mrs Lawrence Ricker of Waukon. Funeral services were set for 10 30 a m Friday at St Lumila Catholic Church with burial in St John s Cemetery. Friends may call at 10 a m Friday. the casket will not be opened following the service.
